Cerebral Venous Thrombosis in Ulcerative Colitis

Abstract
Cerebral venous thrombosis is a rare complication of ulcerative colitis and has various outcome. A 29-years-old man had 2-years history of ulcerative colitis. He was admitted to our hospital complaining of nausea, vomiting and bloody stool. On admission day, he sudden presented with stuporous mentality. A magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and venogram revealed an infarction involving the left cerebellum, both basal ganglia, and thalami, with thrombosis in straight sinus, left transverse and sigmoid sinus. His symptoms and the findings of the follow-up MR images showed marked improvement with anticoagulation. We report a case of cerebral venous thrombosis in ulcerative colitis.
